The Kissidugu Foundation, Creative Strategies for Change, and Urban Cipher invite you to celebrate the release of Binye 2: Respect. Fara Tolno and Kissidugu Fusion’s new CD is a tapestry of fresh compositions, melodies, and hard-hitting percussion. It honors the dignity of Tolno’s deep Guinean roots and African identity, while infusing innovative new world sounds and styles. At Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater, in the Historic 5 Points of Denver, this CD Release Party will be a fun event for the entire family. The doors open at 5pm for a reception, with soundscape by DJ K-Nee. There will be food, refreshments, beer, wine, and fantastic give aways, and auction items, including weekend passes to the Arise Festival. Performances will begin at 6:30pm, with sets from the Pink Hawks, and Fara Tolno & Kissidugu Fusion, as well as a demonstration from members of Les Merveilles. At 9pm, for those who want to keep the party going, join the Merveilles artists, and DJ K-Nee for more great music at Shout Out! The Club, at The Beauty Bar, 608 East 13th Avenue, Denver, CO 80203. Proceeds will benefit the 12th annual Camp Merveilles, July 29-Aug 3. Named after Les Merveilles, the preeminent Drum and Dance Company from Guinea,the camp is hosted by Tolno, in tribute to his mentor, the companies legendary Director, Kemoko Sano. World-class artists from Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast, Congo, Zimbabwe, and the USA will come together at beautiful Sunrise Ranch in Loveland, CO. With classes for adults of all ages and abilities, this is an opportunity to study, connect, and celebrate through music, dance, and dialogue. Fara Tolno has trained as a percussionist, and cultural ambassador since childhood. He was lead drummer for Les Merveilles for 9 years, and has toured with esteemed artists including Otis Taylor, Neil Young, Burning Spear, Salif Keita, Youssou N’Dour, and Oumou Sangare. He recently earned his Master of Fine Arts form CU Boulder, and started the Kissidugu Foundation, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization committed to the preservation, promotion, and innovation of cultural arts.
